Spey Bay. Where to watch birds?

Postby Dave Tanner on Sun Jul 19, 2009 11:02 am

Hi all

I intend to visit Spey Bay sometime this week, hoping to find some early returning waders, and would appreciate any info re the best locations. I've never birded there before although I know the general area and access points. So I would appreciate any info, OS reference would be great or whether to just stick to the west or east side of the river.

Hi Dave,

Find the best spot for waders is from the WDCS visitor centre car park area (NJ348655), where you can stand on the bank and gain a bit of height to look over the mud. (when tide is low). Also birds often hang about on the shingle bank edges. The other side at Kingston is also worth a look though but view not so good. If you're going along the coast Findhorn Bay is worth a check too on the rising tide (from the "hide" car park near the end of RAF Kinloss runway. Also find morning better there as light can be bad in afternoon. NJ053633
